Theology

Bethany Presbyterian Church is a congregation of The Presbyterian Church (USA).  We are a welcoming congregation, moderate in our theological perspective, and engaged in the community in which we find ourselves.  We believe in the Sovereignty of God, the Lordship of Jesus Christ, the Work of the Holy Spirit, and the Authority of the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments.  We believe that the church is a source of hope and nourishment for a weary world.  Understanding our own complicity in the myriad issues which affect our planet, we look to God to guide us as we work for the peace and reconciliation of the whole of humankind.

From Pastor Kent’s Desk

Worship

Worship is an integral part of life at Bethany Presbyterian Church.  In fact, it’s the primary reason we exist!  We’re called by God to set aside time each week to spend in the presence of the Creator, thereby acknowledging God’s gifts to us, confessing our shortcomings, singing psalms and hymns, listening to the Word read and preached, and sharing the Eucharist, thus being nourished for our calling as disciples of Jesus Christ.  Worship is a full-orbed experience at Bethany.  Classically Reformed, our worship is holistic in nature, engaging all of the senses.

Pastor’s Welcome

Rev. Kent E. Holmes

Welcome!  We’re glad you’re visiting our website.  We’ve been a Presbyterian presence in the West End of Lancaster City for well over a century.  Throughout those years there’ve been a lot of changes in the neighborhood, but one thing remains a constant: Bethany Presbyterian Church’s commitment to being a warm, welcoming congregation, dedicated to the worship of God.

Each Sunday, we come together to share our love for Jesus Christ and be nurtured and equipped to do God’s work in the world.  So, if you’re shopping for a new church home, I cordially invite you to join us some Sunday morning and experience for yourself the unique community of faith called Bethany Presbyterian Church.  You’ll be welcomed and engaged!

Sincerely,
Kent
